Codes are a way to safely communicate information that one group/person wants to keep secret from another. The goal of code makers is to protect secret information; the goal of code breakers is to “crack” that code and get the information.

Code Breakers have to be clever, think outside-the-box, be able to see patterns, and enjoy games and puzzles. Some of history’s most famous code breakers in WWII were first identified by seeing how fast they could complete a difficult crossword puzzle… in ink! Another famous code-breaking event surrounds the “Rosetta Stone”, which held the key to understanding Egyptian hieroglyphics--a form of writing made up of small pictures.
