Tree

The tree in our story is a pine tree, specifically, a Canadian Hemlock. Here is a secret: Tree’s real name is even more complicated than Aunt M’s full name! Can you pronounce it? Here it is: Tsuga canadensis.

Hemlocks are part of the Pine Family. So while Tree has his own name, he is also part of a bigger family just like you. (Bea likes to think that ‘Tree’ is part of her family too because she loves Tree so much.) Tree is also a special type of plant called 'Monoecious' (pronounced Mon-e-shus). These plants have male and female flowers and parts on the same plant. ‘Monoecious’ literally means “one house” - think of the male and female parts living in the same space or “house.” So, you can think of Bea’s Tree as a ‘They’: One House!
